...America needs a new political party as soon as possible, and not a new "third" party, but a new first party. As a nation and as a people, we have to face the uncomfortable fact that both of the major parties have already brought to bear all of the force for American progress of which they are capable. Out of ideas, out of vision, and out of touch, the Democrats and Republicans of today have driven our politics to its lowest point in the modern era, transforming our democratic process into a bitter, mindless contest between left-wing and right-wing will to power.

Having fully entered the twenty-first century, America is no longer a left-right nation. The red America/blue America map we see so often in the media isn't as it suggests, a portrait of a nation perfectly and evenly cleaved between two monolithic twentieth century political postures. It only appears that way because the left-right compass can't point in the true political direction our nation has taken as indicated by our electoral choices, so the needle sticks in the middle, producing an illusion of a nation divided against itself.

Yet even though Americans' politics has largely evolved beyond the left-right paradigm into a consensus most often referred to as "fiscally conservative and socially liberal," with our current major parties we can only get one or the other, and never both at the same time. And to make it worse, whenever we elect the "fiscally conservative" Republicans, they spend all their time attacking anything and everything socially liberal, and when we favor the "socially liberal" Democrats, they put all their energy into tearing down all that is fiscally conservative. Furthermore, in the aftermath of 9/11, it has re-occurred to most Americans that we can no longer afford to gamble on less than total victory over those who have chosen on their own, for whatever reason, to harm our nation and our people, yet neither of the two major parties seem to possess the leadership necessary to keep the safety of our nation above the partisan fray.

America needs a new political compass that can point the way forward in our new direction, and with it a modern political party that pulls together liberal Republicans, conservative Democrats, libertarians, and political independents into the political majority we already are, a majority capable of leaving behind the separate but equally failed ideas of the left and right and putting progress—actual forward movement—back into American politics. The Conversation is the community website for this new party—the Liberal Capitalist Party—a nascent internet party with a clear-eyed vision for the future based on what we know works: political and economic liberty, equality before the law, and a dauntless national defense.

So come, let us reason together and enrich the "socially liberal/fiscally conservative" liberal capitalism
upon which our new party can be based, that we may get our nation back on track to a future of civility, liberty, prosperity, and confidence.

Whereas all of Humanity's attempts to create a Society of Virtue have resulted in tyranny and hateful oppression,

Whereas the American Genius has been the rejection of this unachievable goal in favor of the tolerant order of a Free Society,

Whereas all of Humanity’s attempts to create a Planned and Controlled Economy have ended in corruption and ruinous poverty,

Whereas the American Genius has likewise been the rejection of these failed economic ideas in favor of the spontaneous order of a Free Market,

Whereas the fruits of our labors have been Peace and Prosperity, transcending all other Human Accomplishment,

We hereby accept the Verdict of History, and establish the Liberal Capitalist Party on the foundations of American Success.
