There are a lot of people I've seen, like on QandO, at my own party who talk about being like Teddy Roosevelt.

May I suggest we look instead to the British Bulldog? That's right, I suggest that people start idealing ourselves after Sir Winston Churchill when it comes to foreign policy.

What do you think?

That's a toughie.  Maybe we shouldn't look to ANYONE except ourselves, just for the sake of not locking ourselves into any past figure's philosophies who may not match our own, just because the writers of history happen to think he or she was a great dude or dudette.

At least we should really really closely examine their philosophies, unlike the folks who seem to think it's cool to walk around wearing t-shirts with Che on them.   Huh

Having said that, I've always been a fan of Cincinnatus.   Smiley

ETA:  As far as the 'War on Terror' is concerned, I personally feel we should look to the Mongol hordes and the military leadership of Subedei, but that's just me.   Grin

It's funny, I've thought about this for two days, figuring it would come to me, but it hasn't. Even Eisenhower never really articulated the importance of total victory that I've ever heard or can remember. I did a Google search for "quotes victory" and who pops up at the top of the list? Churchill of course. But dang it, he's not American, so I'm not sure how much he would resonate amongst Americans. Cincinnatus T-shirts would be pretty cool too.

As far as the symbolism goes, I like the rattlesnake from the Gadsden flag, except with a big lump in his abdomen  Grin
